Sheih Kickdefella
Sheih or also fondly known amongst close friends and school mates as Udeeng and Ghoip, born in 1970 and this Kelantanese kampong boy received his early education in Sekolah Rendah Sultan Ismail (2) Kota Bharu, before joining Sekolah Menengah Sains Kelantan (now Sekolah Menengah Sains Tengku Faris Petra) in Pengkalan Chepa Kelantan in 1983. He also spent a short time in Sekolah Menengah Sultan Ismail Kota Bharu before being accepted to Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Lumpur in 1986.
In 1988, Sheih returned to Kelantan to do his form sixth in Sultan Ismail College Kota Bharu. In 1990, he was accepted to pursue his first degree under the School of Communication in Universiti Sains Pulau Pinang. Sheih spent 4 years in Pulau Pinang where he majored in Film and Television and Performing Arts and graduated in 1994 with Bachelor in Communications (Hons).
In year 2000, Sheih was accepted to do his Master in Arts (M.A) in Film Studies in University of Nottingham and Master in Science (M.Sc) in European Cinema in University of Edinburgh but due to the lack of fund, he has to forgo the opportunity.
Sheih begins his 14 years spell in the film industry by directing an experimental film Lautan di Waktu Subuh, the 16mm, 5 minutes movie tailored from the poetry by Zaihasra. In 1993, Sheih moves from experimental genre to drama with political theme that soon became his trademark. Karamnya Bahtera Merdeka a.k.a The Cries of An independent Child (again shot in 16mm) was screened in Tokyo and nominated for best picture. This was followed by the award winning Potret Seorang Patriot (16mm), which won the best feature in 1994. Potret Seorang Patriot is a movie about a deposed President combating for freedom from the revolutionary regime.
In his early days as filmmaker, Sheih was strongly influenced by Costa Gavras and his ‘Z’
. In 1995, Sheih wrote Bicara Tentang Kita, a mini series based on the speculation regarding Mahathir-Anwar relationship and the power struggle in UMNO, which he then directed. Unfortunately, it was banned a year later. In 1999, Sheih was awarded the Best Story in The Malaysian Film Festival for his piece, Perempuan Melayu Terakhir. The Movie went on to win 5 other major awards and The Director, Puan Erma Fatima won recognition in Pyongyang for the film. Beginning year 2000, Sheih works on few less political subjects while concentrating in advancing his studies.
Sheih has toiled on more than 200 hrs of television series, feature film and non-fictional program. He also has written more than 40 scripts. Among his memorable works are television movies Earl Grey & Kopi Kampong, YB & Thuraya, Kuartet Merdeka and Neek Hardware & Muthu Schumacher. Sheih also add a 35mm feature film, Persona Non Grata to his credit in 2005, which won him the award for the Most Promising Director, a year later. The movie was then selected to represent Malaysia in the Asia-Pacific Film Festival in Taipei in 2006.
In the same year, Sheih joined Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) where he tutored Television Production and Screenplay. He left UTAR in April 2007 to return to his hometown in Kelantan.
Sheih is married to Bariah Ishak, his course mate in university and they are blessed with three sons and a daughter.
On 20th August 2008, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, The Prime Minister of Malaysia accused Sheih as being evil for running the campaign on flying the Malaysian flag up side down as a mark of ‘Nation in Distress’ in protest of the political and economic turmoil faced by the people of Malaysia due to dreadful policy and unwarranted action taken by the Government and too much time spent on politics by the Malaysian Members of Parliament. The Prime Minister had called the Police to scrutinize Sheih’
s action, which followed by the statement by The Deputy Inspector General of Police announcing an investigation paper was opened to investigate Sheih under the Sedition Act.
However on 22nd August, Deputy Minister, Saifuddin Abdullah claimed that Sheih’
s action is not a sign of disrespect towards the National Flags according to the existing law and called for the lawmakers to push of a new law.
On 17th September 2008, The Malaysian Police used the Sedition Act 1948 Section 4(1) to arrest Sheih in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Sheih is alleged of instigating other bloggers and blog readers to fly the National Flag up side down as a mark of ‘Nation in Distress’. He spent a night in Kota Bharu District Police’
s lockup.
Sheih was brought to the Kota Bharu magistrate court on the next day where the Police tried to obtain a 4-day remand order. However, Police barely managed to obtain a one-day remand order from The Magistrate Yang Amat Mulia Tengku Amalin Aisyah Putri Ibni Tengku Ismail Petra.
Sheih was then transferred to Kuala Lumpur where he was ordered to be detained in the notorious Pudu Prison. However he was then moved to Dang Wangi Police lockup.
On the 19th September 2008, Police attempted to extend the remand order for another 3 days but was denied by the Jalan Duta Magistrate Court. The Magistrate Puan Fadzlin Suraya Dato’
Mohd Shah, however permitted a one-day extension.
Sheih was released on the 20th September 2008 on a one-month police bail due to end on the 17th October 2008.

happened to know your blog a few weeks ago after surfing from blog to blog. Since then I went through all the postings from the begining but never posted a comment.
Age, USM, Kelantan and changing in political direction are among the things we have in common. The difference is that your career has somehow embedded in glamorous world while mine, I would say a small timer in business world.
I share your views about things happening now. One word to describe UMNO people is “disgusting”, even though my father used to be actively involved, and he is still, with his limited capacity. It is not UMNO at fault, but the people who run the show.

I, personally think that your website has done a great job in helping us, Malaysian knowing real stories and behind-scene happened in Kelantan. Subsequently, helped the winning of rakyat Kelantan during PRU-12 2008 (one of many reasons, maybe).
Although I am not Kelantanese, the rakyat victory in defending & big-winning of Kelantan has really made me proud. Reading articles & seeing pictures in this website, especially on the victory of Kelantan has made me very emotionally touched. Cannot stop my tears from rolling down… subhanALLAH.

Saya ingin tahu pendapat sdr/i sama ada dakwaan Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tentang 30 orang Ahli Parlimen BN akan ‘lompat parti’ menyertai Pakatan Rakyat betul atau tidak, atau cuma perang saraf untuk menyatu padukan Pakatan Rakyat dan melemakan BN seperti diperkatakan oleh Fathi Aris Omar kepada blogzine ini beberapa hari sudah. Kedua, apakah tindakan keluar GERAKAN oleh Lee Kah Choon wajar? Dan yang ketiga, bagaimana masa depan DSAI dalam politik di Malaysia? Mampukah beliau menjadi PM. Oleh itu saya mengharapkan kerjasama sdr/i untuk menjawab soalan-soalan mudah dari saya.

I am a kelantanese. “Anak Kelantan” is what we are commonly known as. Anything about Kelantan is beautiful. From art, culture and way of life are different from other states. The races blend together pretty well. That made us Kelantanese unique from others. I hope the culture in the ruling system in Kelantan should be unque too. How I hope this is true but there are still corruption in the government department. Can Tuan Guru Dato’ Haji Nik Aziz Nik Mat see all this. Ask around the Rakyat who need to get thier things approved by any government department. Things can get pretty sticky sometime. Some can get things approved in just 2 weeks and some have thier things stucked for more than 6 months. Why???? Why?????

Saya ada baca blog saudara dan comment pembaca, kebanyakan meyokong tindakan saudara dan bayak yang memaki-hamun Tok Guru Nik. Ini amat menyedihkan sekali. Tulisan saudara bukan-nya untuk menyedarkan mereka mereka yang berkhaitan tetapi membuat andaian yang begitu buruk pembaca kepada Tok Guru. Tak taulah pulak kalau pembacanya terdiri dari orang-orang UMNO, tapi bila diamati comment mereka memang orang-orang UMNO. Tapi takpalah harap ada pembaca-pembaca yang lain dapat menilainya dengan lebih waras sebagai manusia ciptaan Allah. Segala cacian yang diberikan pada orang laian menerusi laman blog saudara, doa-dosa mereka dikongsi bersama dengan saudara. Kalau nak menulis atau nak menjatuhkan seseorang tu buat dengan cara yang berkhemah. Tak perlu nak dicanangkan sana-sini. Orang yang saudara nak khianati tu bukannya membunuh sesiapa pun, sebarang musibah yang berlaku dalam hidup saudara jadikan satu panduan, cerminkan diri, cari dimana silapnya diri saudara tu, bila dah temuinya cuba perbaiki diri. Saya bercakap bukan sebagai penyokong mana-mana politik, tapi saya bercakap sebagai seorang yang kagum dengan keupayaan Tok Guru selama beberapa tahun menerajui Kelantan. Tak semua orang perfect, tapi kita sebagai manusia bantu lah beliau untuk kesejahteraan rakyat. Jangan dibiarkan beliau yang telah dimamah usia dihina begitu. Saya bukan orang Kelantan, tapi saya rasa saya bole menghormati beliau sebagai orang yang boleh dipangil datuk/bapa kepada saya.
Berkunjung memberi salam. Kalau masih ingat lagi, Senior Writer Editor Astro Ria, 1996-1997. Kemudian tuan bersama Tiara. Saya pula di NTV7 dari 2001 – 2005. Baru cecah umur bersara. Sesekali saya ikut juga lenggak-lenggok riwayat tuan.
Paling akhir tuan berkeluh-kesah dengan saya ialah pada tahun 1998 di mana emel tuan sarat dengan kekecewaan akibat layanan buruk dari kak Ani.
Filem tuan Persona non Grata menghiburkan saya kerana saya anggap ketika itu tuan berbicara dengan saya menerusi karya tuan.
Tapi hari ini tuan berkeluh-kesah di dalam blog tuan.
Jika ada kelapangan lawatlah laman blog saya sebab hati nurani kita tersembunyi di celah-celah rangkai kata yang diolah.

i mendoakan smg Allah terus memberikn rahmatNya kpd mr.kickdefella, rahmat kecerdasan akal n kebijaksanaan menyusun bait kata,mengupas isu n mengembangkan idea utk terus menulis n mencoret n melayangkan pena menghasilkan tulisan yg tercoret n terluah hasil drp cetusan kebenaran yang hakiki.
smg mr.kickdefella mndpt rahmat hidayah drNya utk menjdkn penulisan sbg slh satu medium penghubung utk dijdkn bekalan di alam sana yg kekal abadi..smg kiter samer2 mengumpul bekalan di dunia yg fana n sementara ini utk hari akhirat yg kekal selamanya..sesungguhnya hidup n mati hanya sekali..hanya syurga n neraka, itu pilihan kiter yg hakiki.
Pada pendapat saya, tak kisahlah siapa dalang atau talang dlm pergolakan politik kelantan yang pastinya ketidakadilan dan kroni mesti mesti di dedahkan. Walau pahit nak ditelan. Banyak lagi kepincangan dlm pentadbiran kelantan. Tengok sajalah gelagak muda-mudi yang menghuni negeri cik siti wan kembang ini, makin lama makin liar, Cthnya gelagak mat rempik, lumba haram dan kes penagihan dadah di kelantan semakin meningkat dan kes terbaru aksi gelagak penonton di final piala malaysia..memalukan.. Nasib baik TGNA tak pegi tngok. Tapi Arif fahmi ada jugak mlm tu… Kerajaan negeri perlu serius menangi masalah moral ini. Kurangkan politiking dan buat kerja. Ni asyik cari jalan nak kayakan diri sendiri, jual pasir dan balak?? Betul kee…

Saya cadangkan pulak Sheikh pergi intai kat MPKB.. Kat situ pun boleh tahan kongkalikong dia. Boleh mula dengan pergi tanya bab bagaimana MPKB di’paksa’ beli lot2 di Bazaar Tengku Anis yang baru siap dekat Masjid Muhammadi tu. Boleh tahan jugak harga ‘top-up’ yang melebihi harga penilaian yang dibayar oleh MPKB.

Saya merupakan setiausaha kanan bg Yayasan Penyuluh Bakti (YPB) (reg 07/2007) yg ditubuhkan dibawah jabatan perdana menteri. Tujuan Yayasan ni ditubuhkan untuk membuat kursus serta khidmat kaunseling untuk golongan remaja serta masalah terkini remaja.
Memandangkan kebelakangan ni muncul terlalu banyak blog terutamanya di kalangan remaja, serta laman sosial, kita dapat lihat remaja kurang pendedahan terhadap etika penulisan serta kurang sedar tentang akibat tulisan-tulisan mereka dan ini dapat kita lihat dengan kes Tasyriff dan juga kes Aduka Taruna.
Pihak Yayasan Penyuluh Bakti (YPB) kini dalam usaha membentangkan kertas cadangan kepada KPKK untuk menganjurkan satu kursus etika blog remaja serta laman sosial yang bertujuan mendedahkan remaja tentang etika2 penulisan berhemah, motivasi : mengawal emosi secara berhemah , serta pengenalan terhadap undang2 dan juga kesan-kesan penulisan mereka terhadap negara.
Memandangkan saya seorang yang sering mengikuti blog Tuan Syeih, saya begitu kagum dengan penulisan tuan yang tidak didorong oleh emosi semata-mata, penuh beretika serta mampu mengawal emosi marah secara berhemah dengan penulisan yang tidak dipenuhi dengan kata-kata kesat.
Oleh itu, pihak YPB ingin mencadangkan agar pihak tuan dijemput sebagai penceramah jemputan untuk 2 modul dengan setiap modul ialah selama 2 jam.Program dicadangkan di 4 lokasi berbeza dengan selang masa 2 minggu bagi setiap lokasi bermula penghujung April.Diharap pihak tuan dapat memberi kerjasama dan sekiranya berminat, pihak tuan boleh hubungi kami di yayasanpenyuluhbakti@ymail.com atau terus ke e-mail saya are_rief@hotmail.com.

Good points…I would note that as someone who really doesn’t comment to blogs much (in fact, this may be my first post), I don’t think the term “lurker” is very flattering to a non-posting reader. It’s not your fault in the least , but perhaps the blogosphere could come up with a better, non-creepy name for the 90% of us that enjoy just reading the posts.
